VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Vestavia is reminding parents and children about micromobility guidelines. According to the city, micromobility refers to a “variety of small, lightweight, low-speed vehicles operated by users for personal transportation. These vehicles are designed for short-distance trips and include bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, e-scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, OneWheels, Segways, etc.”
According to the city, there has been an increase in children operating high-powered e-bikes, e-scooters and other motor-driven cycles in areas where those aren’t legally allowed. Some are being driven by people who do not meet the age and safety requirements.
“We absolutely want kids outside enjoying their summer and spending time with friends. At the same time, it’s important for parents and guardians to understand the laws and safety requirements that apply to these devices,” wrote the city of Vestavia.
The city says these vehicles are not allowed on public sidewalks or in city parks. There is a list of micromobility guidelines with pictures avaliable when you click or tap here…
