Staten Island charter high school to shutter; students will transfer

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island high school will close its doors at the end of the year despite the state renewing its charter.

The state Board of Regents renewed the charter for the Richmond Preparatory Charter School, New Springville, in April. But the school, part of the Integration Charter Schools system, told its community Wednesday it would close the high school serving students in the ninth and 10th grades.

A source shared Integration Charter School CEO Sean Harrell’s internal Wednesday message to the Richmond Prep community, and Harrell confirmed the news Thursday saying current students would transfer to the system’s Early College Charter School in the fall…
