Amazon officially opened the doors Friday for a behind-the-scenes tour and ribbon-cutting celebration at its newest fulfillment center in Virginia Beach, giving local leaders and community members a first look inside the massive high-tech operation.
The facility, which has been operating since September, spans 3.2 million square feet across five floors and is powered by a combination of robotics, conveyor systems, and more than 1,000 employees working around the clock to process customer orders.
