‘Critical’ crash shuts down major Austin highway, stalls traffic

A “critical” crash on the Northside of Austin has sparked a large emergency response and all but halted U.S. 183. Emergency crews have shut down every main lane of the heavily trafficked highway, keeping only a single shoulder lane open to try to move drivers through.

Drivers traversing the Northside of the Texas capital city on Friday, May 15, should be wary of which highways they hop on. Cars are backed up for miles along U.S. 183, near the intersection of Cameron Road, between Highway 290 and I-35.
