A dozen Detroit acts to check out at this year’s Movement festival

A few days from now, the beat will go on at Detroit’s Hart Plaza — as it has most every Memorial Day weekend since 2000.

The annual Movement festival is hard to beat for electronic music fans. This year, the globally recognized event will host more than 115 acts on six stages over three days, plus four nights of special events at area clubs such as the Magic Stick, Lincoln Factory, Spot Lite, TV Lounge and the Russell Industrial Center. Suffice to say, the wise Movement mavens know to have more than one pair of dancing shoes ready.

And while it brings performers from around the world, Movement has — from its origins as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival — served as a showcase for the metro area’s legacy as the birthplace of techno and a force in the ongoing development of all things EDM. Two of techno’s founding fathers, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, will be part of the 2026 festivals, along with icons such as Carl Craig and Claude VonStroke and a wealth of more recent additions to the lineage, including a Detroit stage that will host two dozen artists from the metro area…
