Severe thunderstorm watches, warnings issued for Chicago area with risk of hail, 60 mph winds

A line of showers and storms that could turn strong or even severe will move into the Chicago area during the Monday morning commute, with lightning, downpours, hail and strong winds all possible.

About 5 a.m. Monday, conditions remained dry, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, but that wouldn’t last long. Live Doppler 5 Radar showed a weakening line of storms across the far northwestern parts of Illinois, including Rockford.

By about 7 a.m., the line will reach counties to the north and west, Roman said, moving east and into Chicago about 10 a.m…
