Firefighters from the Unified Fire Authority and Millcreek Fire Department in Utah helped save an estimated 25 million honeybees Tuesday after a semi-truck hauling hundreds of hives broke down in Parleys Canyon amid unseasonably high temperatures.
The truck, carrying approximately 480 hives, became disabled on the roadway in the canyon east of Salt Lake City. With the vehicle stopped and temperatures climbing, the bees faced the risk of overheating without the airflow normally provided by highway travel.
