Officer-involved crash leaves 80-year-old with moderate injuries

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit says they’re investigating an officer-involved crash that occurred during an emergency response Monday afternoon that left an 80-year-old Ronald Exum with moderate injuries and the officer involved with minor injuries.

The press release states that at approximately 1:34 p.m. on Monday, May 18, a Lubbock police officer was assisting another officer requesting help near 4th Street and Research Boulevard.

Through the initial course of the investigation, LPD officials found that another officer was traveling west on 19th Street and slowed down before entering the intersection on a red light, where the patrol vehicle collided with the passenger car driven by Exum, who was driving south on Frankford Avenue.

Officials report that Exum was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries, while the officer suffered minor injuries…
