JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – It was a day of comebacks in the Georgia High School Association’s girls golf championships.
Gainesville freshman Addison Peeples joined Dawson County’s Pearl Hughes as a comeback champion on Tuesday. Peeples fired a 5-under par 67 to rally past Johns Creek’s Aerin Kim by two strokes to capture the Class 5A girls title at Jekyll Island Golf Resort.
Peeples entered Day 2 down three strokes to Kim, but quickly took charge of the match after turning in a 6-under par 30 on the first nine holes. Meanwhile, Kim shot a 1-over par 37 on the front nine, giving the top spot to Peeples.
Kim did mount a comeback on the final nine holes, outplaying Peeples by two strokes, but she couldn’t overcome Peeples ‘ dominant performance on the first nine holes…
