Police say no evidence of shots fired at Cedar Rapids charter school graduation

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Panic broke out as families and students were leaving the Empowering Excellence Charter School graduation in downtown Cedar Rapids Tuesday night.

Cedar Rapids police said despite reports of shots fired, there was no sign of gunfire and no injuries. KCRG-TV9’s Beth Malicki was on the scene around 9 p.m. and saw some people running from Veterans Memorial building.

Graduates wearing purple caps and gowns were leaving the graduation ceremony when a commotion occurred among some of the people there. This caused a panic with some witnesses saying they heard shots fired, and others saying they heard nothing, but then people were scared and running…
