HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu City Council chair Tommy Waters wants the City to take over the historic Queen Theater in Kaimuki and turn it back into a community performance space.
Waters introduced a resolution that urges the City to acquire and refurbish the building after it was put up for sale in April, 2026.

He told the Kaimuki Neighborhood Board that a revitalized theater would serve local students, musicians and the community during their April meeting.
“And all the parents go eat in the restaurants right across the street, then go watch their kids perform. You got the ukulele school right over there, those kids could go. Kalani High School doesn’t have a performing arts center, they could go and do their plays,” Waters said…
