6 bears, including 2 cubs, euthanized after home break-ins in Haw Creek, Black Mountain

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WLOS) — Six black bears, including two cubs, were euthanized after separate home break-ins in Haw Creek and Black Mountain, according to wildlife officials. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says the incidents were a direct result of bears relying on human food sources.

“I understand that people are upset, and I want them to know that my staff and I are also upset about this because we work so diligently to try and avoid these outcomes,” said Ashley Hobbes, BearWise coordinator with NC Wildlife.

NC Wildlife officials said they cannot relocate the animals once they become accustomed to humans, leading to euthanasia…
