Dauphin County Prison will no longer stall inmates’ release to give ICE time for pickup

Dauphin County Prison will no longer cooperate with federal immigration detainers that delay the release of incarcerated people to give federal agents the opportunity to scoop them up.

The Wednesday afternoon vote, which divided the prison board of inspectors, means inmates will no longer be held past their planned release just so Immigration Customs Enforcement can pick them up.

ICE had previously been asking federal executive branch administrators for civil detainers, or administrative warrants, for the county prison to hold prisoners past their release date…
