When religion leads to child deaths: Prosecutors set sights on faith-healing church

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Authorities are calling for investigations into families who belong to a Pennsylvania church they say has a long history of children dying due to parents believing that God can heal ailments such as pneumonia, ear infections or, even dating back to the first known case, typhoid fever.

Two Lebanon County parents who said they were part of the Faith Tabernacle Congregation were charged April 22 with the death of their baby. The child would have survived if the parents, Connie and Martin Deimler, sought proper medical treatment, according to investigators, but they said medical care was against the church’s beliefs.
