HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 16-year-old is facing charges after Huntersville Police say he was found to have a 3D-printed gun in public.
Just before noon on Wednesday, May 20, a concerned citizen alerted police to a teenage boy carrying a gun at the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus stop on Bryton Town Center Drive.
With help from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and CMPD’s Realtime Crime Center (RTCC), Huntersville Police school resource officers and patrol officers found the teen, who had gone into a nearby retail store when police arrived.
The 16-year-old was found to have a 3D-printed gun. He is charged with:
- Felony possession of a weapon on educational property
- Possession of a firearm by a juvenile
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Simple possession of marijuana
“This situation highlights the importance of strong partnerships between law enforcement and the community,” wrote Huntersville Police. “When community members see something and say something, it can make a critical difference. And in this case, it helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation and remove this firearm from our streets.”…
