The family of a woman who was killed by Louisville Metro sanitation workers during an alley cleanup in February say the tragedy was the result of improper training and safety measures.
The family of Tyrah Adams, 35, filed a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday against the city and the two employees who were conducting the cleanup. According to city officials, Adams was in an alleyway in the Russell neighborhood when dump trucks arrived to conduct a routine cleaning. Workers picked Adams up using a mounted hydraulic claw, along with some surrounding debris. Adams later died from the injuries she sustained from that event.
The lawsuit alleges the two workers, who are unnamed, did not follow the city’s written safety practices for operating the hydraulic claw, called a knuckle boom. The family argued the workers had a duty to ensure the pile of debris they were picking up didn’t have a person inside…
