NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Two women in the Grand Strand grew up in fear of sunlight.
Cheryl Watson and Cortney Tabakelis were diagnosed with erythropoietic protoporphyria, or EPP, a rare blood disorder where the body cannot process light correctly.
“We have too much protoporphyrin in our bodies. A normal person has about 30, and we have thousands,” Tabakelis said. “That’s what causes us to be extremely sensitive to UV light, which causes us our issues to be allergic to the sun.”…
