Charges filed against 2 accused of attacking CPD officers during call on Southwest Side

CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against two people accused of battering CPD officers who were responding to a call on the city’s Southwest Side on Tuesday evening.

The first suspect, 30-year-old Monica Mejia, has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and one misdemeanor count of attempted criminal damage to property.

The second suspect, 33-year-old Michael Sopher, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery to a peace officer causing great bodily harm, one count of felon in possession of a weapon and one felony count of violation of the sex offender registry.
