Springfield Public Schools assess hailstorm damage from April 28

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Public Schools has identified damage to its campuses following the historic hail storm last month.

The school district tells Ozarks First that 13 sites were impacted by the weather on April 28:

  • Academy of Exploration
  • Bissett Elementary
  • Bowerman Elementary
  • Fremont Elementary
  • Hillcrest High School
  • Mallory Early Childhood Center
  • Pleasant View K-8
  • Study Alternative Center
  • Truman Elementary
  • Watkins Elementary
  • Westport K-8
  • Williams Elementary
  • York Elementary

Officials say some buildings sustained brief power outages, damage to roofs and playground equipment from the large hail, with most damage to vehicles in their parking lots.

The damage from the hailstorm was over $15 million, with the district stating that, after insurance payout, they anticipate they will be responsible for around $5 million in deductibles…
