Former Ramada Inn in east Asheville remains empty, boarded up as progress stalls

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — It’s been nearly two years since a California-based developer announced plans to buy the former East Asheville Ramada Inn out of foreclosure from a bank. The goal was to revive the city’s long-endorsed homeless housing project.

Today, the hotel sits vacant with boarded windows, graffiti on the top floor, and a locked metal fence surrounding the property amid reports of vandalism.

Years ago, the city waived nearly $80,000 in associated closing costs for the property sale transfer to the former developer, Shangri-La, which ultimately foreclosed before its housing project moved forward…
