Wastewater spills in Bakersfield after corrosive storage tank leaks

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County agencies are responding to a wastewater spill that occurred in northwest Kern County on Thursday afternoon.

The spill resulted in about 1,000 barrels of produced water discharged from a treatment and sewage facility off of Zerker Road and 7th Standard Road in Bakersfield.

“Produced water” is a toxic but naturally occurring wastewater that comes out from under the ground along side crude oils and natural gases.
