Final graduation for Cleveland’s Collinwood High School

CLEVELAND (WJW) — It was a bittersweet day for one local school district as alumni gathered Friday afternoon for one final walk through of Collinwood High School before the school closes its doors for good.

“We knew the day was coming. The time is here,” said Mary Miller, principal.

The final graduating class of 33 seniors will graduate Friday night, marking the last commencement ceremony in the school’s history.

“It’s a great day for the graduates. They did all that work to graduate high school. It’s also so sad for them,” said Miller.

According to the district, the historic school is closing due to underenrollment and financial challenges. The student body will merge with Glenville High School as part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District “Building Brighter Futures” initiative.
