CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Charleston leaders are considering approving nearly $4 million in additional funding tied to the city’s long-running Battery Extension Project, an effort aimed at protecting the peninsula from flooding, storm surge and rising tides.
The funding requests are expected to go before the Charleston City Council as part of upcoming committee discussions.
The proposal includes:
- $2.9 million for the United States Army Corps of Engineers for continued engineering and design work
- Two separate $400,000 contract amendments with Black & Veatch tied to project management, engineering and flood modeling services
City officials say the funding would help move the project further into what’s known as the pre-construction engineering and design phase…
