EUGENE, Ore. – More than 600,000 Oregonians are expected to travel over Memorial Day weekend, but high gas prices are pushing many to stay closer to home, according to research from the American Automobile Association.
As of Friday, regular gas prices in Oregon are averaging $5.37 a gallon, according to AAA. Experts say the high costs are convincing travelers to explore nearby destinations instead of taking longer trips.
“Gas prices will impact travel always, all the fluctuations do,” said Samara Phelps, president of Travel Lane County. “We expect to see more folks staying a little bit closer to home.”…
