Elk Grove gymnast Courtney Blackson reflects on career that came full circle with LSU

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – For Courtney Blackson, gymnastics was supposed to be over.

After a standout collegiate career at Boise State, where she became a two-time WCGA First-Team All-American, a national runner-up on vault and one of the Broncos’ most accomplished gymnasts, the Elk Grove native had made peace with stepping away from competition and moving into coaching, a new chapter she said brought her a renewed appreciation for the sport she had spent her life chasing.

Blackson’s Boise State résumé was decorated. In 2023, she earned First-Team All-America honors on vault, finished as the national runner-up in the event and scored a perfect 10.0 on vault at the Los Angeles Regional. In 2024, she earned First-Team All-America honors on bars, won the Fayetteville Regional bars title and was named the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
