‘Defend Decatur’ block party draws community support for French Quarter shops amid construction

NEW ORLEANS — Lower Decatur Street transformed into a community gathering on Sunday as business owners hosted the “Defend Decatur Rock the Block Party” in an effort to support shops impacted by months of construction in the French Quarter.

The event spanned the 900-1100 blocks of Decatur Street and featured live music, food, drinks, and pop-up events aimed at bringing customers back to the area.

For nearly eight months, portions of Lower Decatur and surrounding streets have been impacted by ongoing Sewerage and Water Board infrastructure work. Construction fencing, torn-up roads, and limited access have become a daily reality for businesses and residents…
