Police chase ends in Rocky Mountain National Park

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A suspect was taken into custody after allegedly leading police on a pursuit that ended in Rocky Mountain National Park.

On Thursday at 6:05 p.m., Estes Park police received multiple reports about a car driving erratically on U.S. 36 heading toward the town of Estes Park. Police said a GMC Yukon was swerving and passing in no-passing zones without the headlights on.

An Estes Park police officer and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop the vehicle outside of town. However, police said the driver refused to pull over.

Jeffco neighbors: There’s something smelly in the air

Police pursued the vehicle into Rocky Mountain National Park where park rangers assisted officers.

Estes Park police said the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office successfully used a precision immobilization technique, also known as a PIT maneuver, to stop the driver.

Police say they searched the vehicle and found suspected narcotics and discovered that the Yukon was stolen.
