Poudre School District promotes named defendant in lawsuit it faces over ex-bus attendant

( Corrections & Clarifications: The Board of Education vote to approve the consent agenda that included Emily Bickerton’s promotion was 6-1. )

One of four named defendants in a civil lawsuit against Poudre School District over the actions of former paraprofessional bus attendant Tyler Zanella has been promoted twice in the past year, each time with the formal approval of the Board of Education.

Emily Bickerton was most recently formally offered and accepted the new position of senior director of human resources on Sept. 16, the district’s new executive director of communications, John Cope, wrote in an email. The position was only posted internally for existing PSD employees and never listed publicly.

The PSD Board of Education approved Bickerton’s promotion, along with 22 other personnel moves, on its consent agenda at its Oct. 22 meeting and work session, just minutes after a parent spoke up against it. The consent agenda passed by a 6-1 vote, with Kevin Havelda voting against.
