What’s open and closed in South Florida on Juneteenth 2026

Juneteenth is celebrated every year on June 19 to commemorate the day when the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free.

It became a federal holiday in 2021, meaning that some stores and other businesses might be closed in observance.

Here’s what to know.

Schools and government offices

Schools, post offices, courts, libraries and city halls will be closed on Friday, but they will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.

Banks

Branches of all major banks will be closed for Juneteenth, since it is a federal holiday.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, malls and major retailers

Most major grocery stores, malls and other retailers will be open this Friday, including:

  • Publix
  • Presidente Supermarkets
  • Walmart
  • Costco
  • Walgreens
  • CVS
  • Target
  • BJ’s
  • Bravo Supermarkets
  • Sam’s Club
  • Sedano’s
  • Trader Joe’s

Beaches and parks

If you have the day off, you’re in luck, because beaches and parks within Miami-Dade and Broward counties will be open.
