WATCH: GermanFest volunteers’ cooking, serving is labor of love

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – GermanFest’s organizers believe everyone should come to their festival hungry, as they have grills and volunteers running around the clock to feed thousands in just four days.

Abby Heidenreich and Tim Longardner with Fort Wayne Turners are two of the approximately 100 GermanFest volunteers. Heidenreich mans the bratwurst grill, and Longardner leads the Oktoberfest chicken smoker, both operations just steps away from the bustling Headwaters Pavillion. Each said they prepare about a thousand pieces of meat each GermanFest. It’s hours on their feet in the sun, but it’s an experience they look forward to repeating each year.

Watch how volunteers make each meal with love…
