Fort Worth Fire Department volunteer brings refreshments for responders at incidents

It was dusk on a recent Thursday, and Kent Bolinger and Jana Stout were cleaning up the food truck that had delivered supplies to a crew fighting a grass fire the day before.

Bolinger and Stout are top officers of the nonprofit Red Helmets. For half a century, when the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a major incident, the Red Helmets have followed with refreshments for firefighters.

“I always wanted to be a firefighter, but never did anything on it,” Bolinger said. But nearly 20 years ago, he joined the Red Helmets. Today, he estimates, he puts in 800-900 volunteer hours a year with the group…
