The Fort Worth Zoo welcomed an adorable new member to their giraffe herd in the wee hours of the morning on January 1st, and the little guy has the most appropriate name!
As we learned from a recent post by the Fort Worth Zoo on X (formerly Twitter), this adorable little (huge) guy has already sky-rocketed to 6’3 and weighs 165 pounds—a real gentle giant—and he’s only going to keep growing. Just wait until you hear how perfect his name is!
Aww! The zoo called him Korbel, after, well, Korbel (the champagne brand) and it was the perfect way to kick off the new year.
Can we all just take a moment to admire his little smile at the beginning of the video? I just can’t get over how adorable baby giraffes are. Korbel looks so young and innocent; so fragile and curious. It’s hard to believe he’ll eventually grow up to be as tall as his mama!

It’s still been a bit too cold for Korbel to be outside, so for now he’ll continue to hang out in the barn with mom as he slowly meets other herd members. Fortunately, “this has given him many opportunities to interact with enrichment,” said the zoo on a follow-up post. No rush, Korbel! You have a long, lovely life ahead of you.
