Man charged with murder in downtown Oakland shooting of San Leandro nurse

A 39-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting of a San Leandro nurse in downtown Oakland last month, officials said Tuesday.Shacory Carnell Daniels is accused of killing the man on May 31 as the victim walked to his vehicle near 14th and Harrison streets, according to Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson. Daniels was charged with murder, an attempted robbery-related felony charge, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, prosecutors said. Oakland police said officers responded shortly after 2:45 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Harrison Street. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died, police said.

The victim was identified as Lartey Solomon, 33, a registered nurse who was born and raised in Ghana before moving to the United States, according to an online fundraiser organized by his brother.

Solomon studied at Merritt College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Samuel Merritt University, according to the fundraiser. He worked as a registered nurse at Alameda Health Care and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro…
