Redwood City police arrested a 31-year-old man late Saturday night after he allegedly stabbed a fellow Safeway shopper, who then fired a single shot inside the supermarket, authorities said. Isidro Zamora-Cisneros, of Redwood City, was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police say the altercation began at about 11 p.m. on May 9 when Zamora-Cisneros allegedly approached a man in the self-checkout of the Safeway at 1071 El Camino Real and began to stab him “without any apparent provocation.”
During the attack, a woman with the victim used a shopping cart to fend off Zamora-Cisneros, police said. At some point, police say the male victim pulled out a gun and fired a single shot at Zamora-Cisneros. The shot missed him and struck a computer monitor. No one was hit by the bullet, police said.Zamora-Cisneros fled but was caught in the parking lot by responding officers, who had received numerous 911 calls about the violent altercation. Police said it’s unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the incident.
