FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno Police sergeant was presented the Medal of Valor by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday.
At Tuesday’s ceremony in Sacramento, Fresno Police Sergeant George Imirian was recognized for his bravery during a shootout at the scene of a homicide in 2024.
In October 2024, Irmirian responded to reports of gunfire and a homicide scene when the armed suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Andy Morales, returned and opened fire on his patrol vehicle.
Irmirian sustained multiple gunshot wounds; however, the sergeant continued to pursue and engage Morales. Irmirian would eventually collapse from blood loss, but not before he called for medical assistance for both himself and the suspect…
