FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno is the first city in the State of California to lower its speed limits outside schools to 20 mph, down from the usual 25 mph, according to city officials.
City leaders say the change is designed to improve safety for students walking and biking to class. Signs outside San Joaquin Memorial High School and CTEC High School in Fresno have already been changed.
At the official reveal of the 20 mph signs on Wednesday, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said the move was about both students in Fresno and public safety. In total, the city lowered school zone speed limits at more than 600 school locations across Fresno.
