FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The community gathered at Cedar and Shaw avenues for the unveiling of the new Fresno State dorms on Tuesday morning.
“We are not simply cutting a ribbon; we are opening doors of opportunity,” Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, president of Fresno State.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the first housing initiative at Fresno State in 50 years. There is now a new 80,000-square-foot housing facility with 228 apartment-style beds.
Phong Yang, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, says that there were 1,355 beds and hundreds of students on the housing waitlist in 2025. He then proudly announced that there are 1,598 beds post-project and no students on the waiting list for Fall 2026.
