Fresno Unified makes a plea for higher attendance: ‘I get that Disneyland is less crowded’

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno Unified’s Chief Financial Officer has appealed to the school district’s families not to pull their children out of school “to go on a family vacation.”

“I get that Disneyland is less crowded in the middle of the semester,” said Chief Financial Officer Patrick Jensen. “But there’s a direct negative impact, both to your students’ education and to the funding of the district.”

Jensen’s comments last week came following Fresno Unified’s announcement that the Foundation for Fresno Unified Students would be covering the costs of centralized field trips, but Jensen says regular attendance is down in the school district…
