Hocco The Indian Kitchen opened its doors in Frisco on May 25, bringing fast-casual Indian street food to a storefront at 2693 Preston Road. The restaurant marks the latest expansion for the Chona family, whose food-industry roots run three generations and eight decades deep, spanning restaurants, cafes, ice cream and ready-to-eat foods.
According to Community Impact, Hocco aims to bring the authentic flavors of India to the United States through a modern fast-casual dining experience. The menu leans on wraps, rice bowls, curries, baked breads, beverages and desserts, the outlet reports.
The Chona Family’s Path From Havmor Ice Cream to Hocco
The Chona family’s food story predates Hocco by decades. According to World Economic Magazine India, the family began in Karachi in 1944 before relocating to Ahmedabad after Partition, where they built Havmor Ice Cream into a national brand over seven decades. The Chonas sold Havmor to South Korea’s Lotte Confectionery in 2017 for roughly ₹1,020 crore, or about $150 million, in a deal that included a five-year non-compete clause. Once that clause expired, third-generation leader Ankit Chona launched Hocco in 2019 — an acronym for House of Chonas Collaborative — after earning a degree from Purdue University and working with Panera Bread.
A $225 Million Valuation Fuels Rapid Expansion
That momentum accelerated in September 2025, when Hocco raised ₹115 crore, or about $13 million, in a funding round led by Sauce.vc, according to Entrackr. The round pushed the company’s valuation to roughly ₹2,000 crore, or about $225 million, as Hocco worked to expand daily production capacity toward 300,000 liters. Entrackr reported the money was earmarked for manufacturing expansion, stronger cold-chain logistics and faster retail growth in both India and international markets.
Seven U.S. Kitchens Target Growing South Asian Communities
In the United States, Hocco now operates seven locations: Frisco; Cumming, Georgia; Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Mason, Ohio; Paramus, New Jersey; Greenville, South Carolina; and Chesapeake, Virginia, according to HOCCO The Indian Kitchen. Each kitchen focuses on Indian street food alongside fast-casual staples like rice bowls and wraps. At the Frisco storefront, the lineup includes the Famous Dum Biryani, Signature Lamb Galouti, Amritsari Chole, Chicken 65 and customizable Tikka Masala wraps. The location also offers dine-in, takeout and corporate catering through ezCater.
Free Dessert Marked the Grand Opening
