Allen Goes All In On Play: City Hurls $8 Million At Parks, Swings And Splash Pads

Allen is pouring more than $8 million into fresh playgrounds and park upgrades across the city, from tucked-away neighborhood tot-lots to the marquee play area at Celebration Park. The plan centers on a roughly $5 million overhaul at Celebration Park that will add an inclusive playground and a splash pad, while a series of smaller replacements and shade projects roll out in nearby neighborhoods this year. Two of those jobs are already done: Allen Station Park’s $1.7 million playground opened in May 2025, and Lost Creek Park’s revamped play area welcomed kids earlier this year.

According to Community Impact, Celebration Park is the biggest ticket item at about $5 million. Bradford Crossing and Lost Creek each come in around $600,000, with Quail Run budgeted at about $400,000. Community Impact’s project list notes that new equipment for Bradford Crossing is in fabrication and Quail Run’s playground is currently under construction, with Bradford Crossing expected to open in early fall and Quail Run slated for early summer. The same list reports that Allen Station Park’s $1.7 million improvements opened in May 2025 and that the city is planning two playground replacements each year.

Mayor Baine Brooks put the philosophy more bluntly: “When you have something nice, you have to invest in it,” emphasizing the city’s reinvestment mindset as Allen gets closer to full build-out.

How The Work Is Funded

City documents show that much of the larger funding is routed through the Allen Community Development Corporation, while park development fees are used for neighborhood-level replacements City of Allen agenda. Agenda packets and cover sheets lay out previous ACDC-funded efforts and shade construction contracts, giving a paper trail for how each project moves through council approval. The Allen Parks Foundation has also been a key player in building signature inclusive spaces such as the kidMania playground at Celebration Park, which the foundation helped support with fundraising and volunteer labor Allen Parks Foundation…
