AMBER Alert for abducted Louisiana teen leads to safe recovery near Allen

An AMBER Alert is cancelled for a 13-year-old Louisiana girl that was believed to be in Allen, Texas. She was found safely in Allen overnight, as was the 18yo man who’s suspected of taking her.

Merlin Argueta (also identified as Merlin Chirinos-Argueta or Merlin Chirinos Argueta) was reported missing May 7 from the 6200 block of Bain Boulevard in Caddo Parish. Authorities say she was taken without parental consent and last seen near Allen around 7:10 p.m. Thursday. The Texas Department of Public Safety activated the statewide alert at the request of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators identified 18-year-old Daniel Osman Vasquez Mejia as the suspect. A be-on-the-lookout was issued for a white Chevrolet Suburban bearing Texas license plate VML6061. The public was urged to call 911 immediately with any information.

Tips generated after the alert led Allen Police Department officers to contact a person who had driven the suspect to the residence where the girl was taken. That individual provided a location, allowing officers to locate both the teen and Mejia. The juvenile was recovered unharmed and placed in the custody of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services while arrangements were made for her return to her family.
