Marion County man accused of taking thousands for work never done

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A 46-year-old man is facing grand theft charges after deputies say he collected more than $9,000 from a woman for home improvement work he never completed.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies said John Howell accepted $5,000 to remove trees from a woman’s property and an additional $4,200 to install a fence. Howell never performed the work and later cut off contact with the woman, deputies said.

Investigators said Howell is not a licensed contractor and his business is not registered…
