The total number of traffic fatalities on Marion County roadways this year has steadily outpaced last year’s figure, with the area reporting nearly four dozen deaths through the first week of July.
According to the latest preliminary data from the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) crash dashboard, Marion County recorded 3,176 total traffic crashes between January 1 and July 9. Those collisions have resulted in 44 fatalities across 43 distinct fatal crashes, alongside 2,741 injuries.
