Evacuations ordered due to 25 to 30-acre wildfire in northern Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A 25-acre fire is blowing smoke over northern Gainesville, prompting evacuations for some residents.

Florida Forest Service officials say the fire started around 2 Sunday afternoon, and is burning in the woods near Gainesville Regional Utilities’ eastside operations center.

Firefighters currently can’t say how many homes were evacuated, if any buildings are threatened, or how the blaze started. They say people living south of Ring Power Corporation likely had to leave home…
