Phoenix eyes new action on water crisis

Phoenix officials want to expand water-sharing agreements across Arizona as they prepare for potentially significant reductions in its Colorado River supply.

In a recent policy session, the administration was scheduled to ask City Council to authorize it to enter mutual aid and water transaction agreements designed to help Phoenix and its regional partners respond to worsening drought conditions and anticipated shortages. Those partners include Tucson, Cave Creek, the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD), “relevant Arizona and federal governmental entities and various on- and off-river Colorado River/Central Arizona Project water entitlement holders in Arizona,” according to the administration request…
