WALKER, Mich. — Officer Zach Degroot was less than an hour away from his shift ending in the early morning on June 17 when his radio crackled to spring him into action.
“About 1:17 am, we received a broadcast about a wrong-way driver,” Degroot said, days later in the garage at the Walker Police Department. “Basically [it was] dispatch saying, ‘Hey, we have multiple callers saying there’s a car going the wrong way.'”
Dispatch said the car on I-96 was going the wrong way down the westbound lanes…
