FOX 17 has issued a Weather Ready Alert for Wednesday, due to the risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
This comes after a very active weather day/night on Tuesday, when we had several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Tornado Watches, and Tornado Warnings posted across West Michigan. All of West Michigan was under an Enhanced risk (level 3/5) for severe weather, with strong storm activity popping up between 9PM and 1AM. We also picked up around 1-3″ of rain across the area.
At least two tornadoes likely touch downed Tuesday night, one in Montcalm County around the Carson City area around 10:30 PM, and another in Allegan County around Otsego and Plainwell around 11:45 PM. The National Weather Service has not officially confirmed these tornadoes yet, but they will be out surveying the areas today.
Scattered showers are still working their way across West Michigan this morning, and will continue into this afternoon. We should see a break from precipitation later in the afternoon, but hopes are that we’ll stay locked in under heavy cloud cover. Staying cloudy will help keep the severe threat lower. We do not want to see clearing and sunshine on days like this, as this can destabilize the atmosphere and provide fuel needed for strong storms to develop…
