West Michigan votes today: Bonds, millages on the ballot

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Many West Michigan voters will go to the polls today, deciding on various bonds, millages and other ballot proposals.

In-person polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Not every municipality or precinct in West Michigan has something on the ballot, but many do. You can view a sample ballot and check your polling place by visiting the Michigan Secretary of State’s Voter Information Center website. You don’t need to show photo identification to vote, but it does speed things up, so the SOS and local clerks advise you bring your ID.

If you’re voting absentee but haven’t yet returned your ballot, it’s too late to put it in the mail. Absentee ballots must be returned by the time polls close Tuesday to get counted — a May 5 postmark isn’t good enough (with an exception for military and overseas ballots). Instead of putting it in the mail, take it to your clerk’s office, leave it in an election drop box in your jurisdiction or take it to a polling place to feed it into a tabulator yourself. Remember to sign your return envelope. Ballots without signatures won’t be counted…
