FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — News 8 crews witnessed a large police presence outside a Fruitport Township VFW hall early Sunday morning related to an alleged shooting at a post-prom gathering.
A neighbor told News 8 she heard “30 to 40” gunshots fired near her home about 50 feet from the VFW hall on Airline Road.
The VFW post’s quartermaster told News 8 he was notified shortly after midnight of a shooting in the hall’s north parking lot. He said a group rented out the hall Saturday night for what was described as a “family gathering,” though parents at the scene described the event as a post-prom celebration involving mostly teenagers.
