Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson posted photos on Facebook of highway workers after they happened to spot an abandoned car off I-41 on County Road N.

On an extremely hot day with temperatures nearing 90 degrees, the car had fully sealed windows—and 12 cats trapped inside.

“Where others looked the other way, crossed to the other side of the road or simply didn’t bother to stop, these fine folks took notice and acted fast,” Nelson said.

The four highway workers opened up the car, called local authorities and got the four-legged friends to the Fox Valley Humane Association before tragedy could strike.
